Three decades of operational consulting. Rebuilt for now.
Forward Intellect is a boutique consulting practice founded and led by Edward ("Ed") Knudholt.
Edward ("Ed") Knudholt
Ed has spent more than thirty years doing the kind of business and technology consulting that doesn't fit on a slide. His training-ground industries — life sciences, consumer packaged goods, and manufacturing — plus years running as a sole proprietor and entrepreneur, gave him the operational fluency that consulting textbooks skip.
The pattern has always been the same: understand the business first, design the solution second, ship it third. What's changed is the delivery layer. AWS makes cloud infrastructure feasible for companies that once couldn't justify it. Modern AI compresses custom development timelines dramatically. The result: SMBs can now afford tailored solutions that used to be reserved for the Fortune 500.
Where we began
Ed's craft was shaped in three industries — life sciences, consumer packaged goods, and manufacturing. Each taught the same lesson in its own way: every operation looks different up close, and no textbook solution fits without translation.
Being a sole proprietor and entrepreneur reinforced the drive to make things work, the discipline to ship them, and the humility to know when to change course. That combination — sector fluency plus first-hand ownership — is what shows up in every engagement.
The techniques haven't changed, only the tools. Structured discovery, plain-language requirements, ship-what's-needed — now applied in fast-paced sprints using the Scrum agile framework. Different tempo, same discipline.
What we believe
- Requirements before code. Most projects fail because the wrong thing got built, not because the code was bad.
- Delivery is the deliverable. A recommendation you can't execute isn't strategy — it's a document.
- Small teams beat big ones. Especially with AI in the loop.
- The right-size solution. Not enterprise sprawl. Not consumer shortcuts. What fits your business, at a price that makes sense.
- Ownership over lock-in. When we build, you own it. When we choose vendors, we choose the ones you can leave.
Where we come from
Forward Intellect grew out of a full-service managed IT practice. That gave us a decade of hands-on experience running real infrastructure for real businesses — the kind of experience you can't get from a whiteboard. Today the practice is focused: business and technology consulting with modern delivery, for growing companies that have outgrown consumer tools but don't need an enterprise integrator.
Who we work with
Small and mid-sized businesses. Roughly ten to fifty employees, roughly one to ten million in revenue — the size where the owner is still close to every part of the operation but the operation has become too complex to hold in one head. Any industry: the consulting method is the same.
